But what happens when a Black woman has her own mind?

When she sets boundaries.
When she speaks differently.
When she challenges popular opinion.
When she refuses to shrink.

Protection is not control.

Although Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s official birthday is January 15, today we honor his life, his legacy, and his dream.

As we look at the current state of the world, it’s hard not to feel that we are still so far from the vision he shared in his “I Have a Dream” speech. In many ways, it feels like the world has moved backward—divided, chaotic, and heavy.

And yet… I still choose to believe.
I still believe that we shall overcome.
I still believe that the world can and will get better.

May Dr. King’s dream—paired with our faith in God—lead us forward. May we learn to live together as one human race, not divided by race, opinions, ideologies, political views, gender, or differences. May we begin to truly care for one another, extend grace, and commit to healing the world we are living in.

I pray that every spirit of division, hatred, violence, and destruction be rebuked in the name of Jesus, and that love, truth, unity, and peace rise instead.

May we honor Dr. King not just with words—but with how we live, love, and lead.
